Vege Warmth

Every family makes an effort to eat healthy. My family for the last one month has made that conscious effort where they have tried to incorporate various vegetables in their diet. However, it might get boring to eat vegetables day in and day out without adding a little zing to it. A few experiments  over the last weekend got us to upgrade our boring dinner vege dishes into something more interesting. We made sure that the dishes are simple and easy to make especially when it comes to cooking during office days. We also saw that we change it and tweak it beyond our everyday Indian palate which will give us the change the mind needs to be interested in the food we eat.

Yes, if your family is like mine were taste trumps all and food is an integral part of your being it is necessary to cook food which interests  you especially during the times when you trying to be more healthy than otherwise. Living alone for the past few years has taught me to incorporate techniques of cooking which have been helpful in making veges which will turn a few heads in the family and makes us have our greens regularly.

Even though salads are the best way to consume veges (they contain the highest amount of roughage and nutrition), winters make this a little difficult. Many at time salads might not be warm and many might skip over them during the cold winter months. To make a warm vege creation, which is not just healthy but also fills you up with warmth during those cold months, there are a few essentials which every kitchen should possess.Yes, if your family is like mine were taste trumps all and food is an integral part of your being it is necessary to cook food which interests  you especially during the times when you trying to be more healthy than otherwise. Kitchen Essentials: 

  1. A small OTG
  2. A strainer,
  3. A colander which fits the strainer (or an electric steamer if you have one).

Essential Ingredients:

  1. A few herbs of your liking,
  2. Balsamic vinegar or red wine vinegar
  3. Crushed peppers and salt.

There are a few options with which you can treat your veges. I have suggested two  (and maybe you can suggest me few in the comments section).

The first option

  • Steam your veges by arranging them on the strainer.
  • Fill the colander ¼ th with water bring it to boil.
  • Simmer the heat and out the strainer on it.
  • Cover the strainer.
  • Keep a look at the veges till they are done but still are crisp.
  • Heat about a teaspoon of oil in a non-stick pan and put chopped garlic.
  • Put the veges over this stir in a few herbs of your choice, salt and pepper.
  • Remove the veges after about a minute.
  • Keep the heat on high at all times.

  • Put balsamic vinegar or red wine vinegar in the veges.
  • Mix in salt, pepper, and herbs of your choice.
  • Pre-heat the oven for ten minutes.
  • Put the vegetables in a baking tray and grill the veges at 180 degrees C for half an hour.

Enjoy your winters with veges.

P.S- Keep changing the types of vegetables you consume to avoid boredom.
